In September of 1990, a group of 19 people, under the leadership of Pastor Bill Stoll and his wife Irma had a dream of forming a church in Kearny. In January 1991 the group filled out all the necessary documents and the new church was legally recognized.

After four years as the church's pastor, Pastor Bill met with the church's leaders with the possibility of appointing a new pastor because he felt the need to retire after spending 30 years in the missionary field in Brazil.

Pr. Jorge Prado answered the call and became the second pastor of Kearny Baptist Church. Under his leadership the church grew and became financially stable. The interior of the church was renovated and became a more comfortable and beautiful place for the services.

On September 10, 2000, Pr. Prado, following God’s orientation, moved to Charlotte, NC to direct a Counseling Center in the “Calvary Church” and start a church with the Spanish speaking community there.

Pr. Alcione Tadeu dos Santos was invited to assume the temporary ministry of the church. In a business meeting which was part of the worship service on, December 10, 2000, the trustees recommended that Pr. Alcione become the third pastor of the church.

Since the first meetings, in September of 1990 until today we recognize the unlimited blessings that God has been giving to our church. We remember the text of I Kings 18:44: "A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea." A cloud, as small as a man’s hand is sign of rain. Through the prophet Zechariah, God warns us: "Who despises the day of small things?" ( Zechariah 4:10 )

From a group of 12 simple people, the kingdom of God has spread throughout the world. The same thing happens today; from a group of committed brothers and sisters God can form a strong and big church for his honor and glory.
