Text: Jeremiah 18:1-6
Introduction
- Jeremiah prophesied in the kingdom of Josiah.
- He prophesied for 41 years.
- He wasn’t comprehended by the people and authorities.
- He was persecuted and put into prison, but he accomplished his mission.
- Jeremiah 18:2 “Go down” is God’s order to him.
- He obeys promptly.

- In the text, the clay represents Israel, taken from Egypt
- Today, it represents us, taken from the world to be molded.
- We are made from clay. Genesis 2:7
- We’ll come back to dust. Genesis 3:19
- Who are we? Nothing.

| B) | The Wheel (Jeremiah 18:3b) |
- It served to mold the clay.
- Strongly knead the clay, or in a certain manner.
- The circumstances (Romans 8:28) are the wheel of our lives.
| C) | The potter (Jeremiah 18:4-6) |
- The Lord represents the potter.
- In Jeremiah 18:6, the Lord asks a question. “Can I not do with you as this potter does?”
- Our answer should be Yes.
- Illustration: II Timothy 2:20-21
- II Timothy 2:20 “If a man cleanses himself from the latter”
- What latter?
| 1 | II Timothy 2:14 – “quarreling about words” |
| 2 | II Timothy 2:16 – “godless chatter” |
| 3 | II Timothy 2:19 – “turn away from wickedness” |
- Cleansed from these things, he is transformed into a vase for honor.
- Jeremiah 18:4 The vase marred in the potter’s hand.
- What would we be if we only let God mold us?
Conclusion.
- Is it possible to be a new vase? By ourselves we’ll never do it.
- We need to look at Jesus who was molded by the Father.
- Isaiah 53:5. Jesus was pierced for our transgressions; crushed for our iniquities.
- The only perfect vase was Jesus.
- Matthew 26:39 “Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
