Text: John 11:32-45

Introduction

  • v. 35 “Jesus wept”
  • What is the result of his tears?
1. Some noticed how much he loved Lazarus. V.36
2. Others made fun of him. He should have done something, but he didn’t. V.37
  • Comparison between Lazarus resurrection (John 11) and Jesus resurrection. (John 20).
01. Lazarus got out only after the men moved the stone. V.39/40
  • As tombs, they used existed cave or they would dig new ones. Then it was closed with stone, so the animals wouldn’t eat the bodies. It was far from the houses.
  • What else did Jesus tell them to do? R. v.44
  • What was the lesson learned? The obedience. From that miracles happened.
Jesus didn’t need any kind of help. John 20:21 This is the difference between human limitation and the divine power.
02. Lazarus got out of tomb
  • The bodies were scented with oils and sheets. And tied arms and legs with piece of cloth.
    Jesus left the clothes behind.
  • John 19:38-40, says how the body was prepared.
  • John 20:5,6,7, what happens with the sheets?
03. Lazarus returned to the earthly living. John 12:1-2
  • A commentator said about v.35: “Jesus cried for taking Lazarus out of a good place and bring him back to earth” (Poem, of course).
  • Lazarus would die again. John 12:10
  • It is only a sign of the true resurrection.
Jesus went to the father in heaven.
  • John 20:17 and John 14:27,28.
  • Jesus is the resurrection itself. John 11:25

Conclusion

v. 45/46: The multitude that saw the miracles was divided.
v. 45- some believed.
v. 46,53,54- some wanted to kill him. (Chapter 7- He was set free again)

Application:

Free to have faith or to not believe.
People today don’t believe because they were not there.
Many (v.46, didn’t believe because they saw. They were there.)
You are free to have faith, to believe or not.
What is your decision?
I invite you to believe. John 11:25
