| The look in Jesus’ eyes (03/28/04 - Night)

Text: Mark 10:21
Introduction.
- Luke 19:41 - "Jesus saw the city and cried for it"
- Matthew 14:14 - "Jesus saw the crowd and had compassion for them"
- The young man in the text kneels, he looks up to Jesus from the base of the cross.
- Jesus is touched, and "looking at him, he loved him"
| 1. | The look on Jesus’ eyes in the cross of the Calvary. Matthew 27:46. |
- Before arriving at the cross he was tortured, they spat on his face, they put a crown of thorns on his head, they passed beside him.
- Reading the gospel, watching movies, we cannot imagine what Jesus went trough there at that cross.
- The only one that could remove him from there, God, turned his back on Him.
- Jesus asks: Why have you abandoned me? Why was it necessary that someone pay for our sins. And He was the chosen one.
- Raise your eyes to him, try he contemplate the face of Jesus in the cross now.
| 2. | The look in Jesus' face at the final judgment. Matthew 25:41 |
- Jesus is speaking about his return to this world.
- Does not come as Savior but as judge.
- Matthew 25:31-34. Seating on a throne, not on a donkey.
- "Prepared for the devil and his angels". Not for the men.
- I John 2:1. The importance of a lawyer. - Look at the future, try imagine the face of Jesus as judge.
| 3. | The pleasant face of Jesus, today. Mark 10: 21 |
- Mark 10:22. The young man looked away and withdrew sad.
- He choose to look at another god, money.
- Everybody have a god in their heart. Which is yours?
- Jesus mentioned the commandments related to others.
- Did not mention the ones related to God, they are the first commandments.
- You can be doing very well with the others.
- And with God?
Conclusion.
- Can you imagine the face of Jesus in the cross, in the past?
- Can you imagine the face of Jesus in the judgment, in the future?
- The loving face of Jesus, is looking directly at you now.
- Do not look away, look at Jesus with faith.
- Do not exchange Jesus for another god, as did that young man.
