Text: The Gospel of Luke
Introduction.
- According to Colossians 4:14 he was a doctor and a good friend of the apostle Paul. - He wrote the gospel between 64 and 70 a.c. He also wrote the book of Acts. - He was with Paul on two missionary trips, on the second and on the third. - We know nothing about his birth, family and death. - The expression “do not fear” appears at least 6 times in this gospel.
01. Luke 1:13 . Don’t fear when your prayer takes a long time to be answered.
- An angel appeared to Zachariah. - After the ministry of Malachi, it is the first time that God communicates with his people, after 400 years of silence. - Luke 1:5 says that Zachariah was “division of Abijah” - The children of Aaron were divided into 24 groups to serve in the temple. - Luke 1:6 makes a complement to Zachariah and his wife Elizabeth. - Not having children was a tragedy for a Jewish family. Example: Hannah. - They were a faithful couple. He was a priest, but wasn’t free from trials. - Luke 1:12 “Fear came upon them” - That’s how it was with Moses and the burning bush. - With the women that went to the grave. - With the apostle John on the island of Patmos. - Luke 1:17 says that Elizabeth was barren. And they were old. - “God’s opportunity is on human’s incapacity” - From Elizabeth’s womb would come he who would prepare the way for the Savior.
02. Luke 1:30. Do not fear before a great privilege.
- Nazareth was a small city of Galilee. - Mary was an unknown young lady. - Why not Jerusalem? Why not a daughter of a priest? - Mary was the first person to “accept Jesus” - It is the text that has the announcement of the most wonderful happening, the birth of our savior! - It was the dream of any Jewish woman, of all Jewish family, bring the Messiah into the world. - What privilege has God given you? Do not fear.
03. Luke 2:10 . Do not fear before great surprises.
- The news about Jesus’ birth was given to the shepherds, not to the priests. - The true happiness just arrived, Jesus. - Luke 2:15. The shepherds ran to prove the birth of the savior. - We have good and bad surprises in our lives. Do not fear.
04. Luke 8:50. Do not fear before the great affliction.
- Jairus was the prince of the synagogue. He humbly kneels down. Makes a request. - A sick woman ( Luke 8:42 ) “interrupts” his conversation with Jesus. - Jairus’ servants arrived ( Luke 8:49 ) “death announcers” - The word of Jesus to all the afflicted: “Do not fear” Luke 8:50 - Faith to the woman was “go after Jesus.” -Faith to Jairus was to wait for Jesus.
05. Luke 12:7 / 12:32 . Do not fear before life.
- These are the words of Jesus for us today. - Zachariah...Mary....Priests....Jairus...we. What is your situation? - God doesn’t need a telescope or a microscope. He knows us.
Conclusion.
- Isaiah 41:10. The promise of God to Israel in the Old Testament. - And is still here today for the church, the “new Israel.” - Birds were food for poor people, they were not valuable. - But it was of valuable to God. God takes care of them.
