Text: Luke 6:12-16 Introduction. - Let us examine for a while the life of each one of the 12 apostles. 01. Simon Peter.
Mark 5:35-41. He was part of the intimate circle of Jesus. He asked questions. He had answers. Matthew 16:16. He recognized Jesus as the Messiah. John 21:15-19. His leadership was recognized by the Lord Jesus. He wrote two epistles. Mark 14:66-72. He denied Jesus. Today we have people like Peter in the church.
02.Andrew.
John 1:35-40. He was first disciple of John the Baptist. John 6:8-9. He took the boy with the bread and fish to Jesus. John 12:22. Together with Philip, he took the Greeks to Jesus. Today we have people like Andrew in the church.
03. James. (Son of Zebedee)
Mark 3:17. His brother and him, were known as “Sons of Thunder”. Matthew 20:20-21. They were ambitious; they want a place of honor beside Jesus. Today we have people like James in the Church.
04.John
John 21:20-23. He was the loved disciple. He wrote 5 books of the Bible. The gospel, 3 epistles, and Revelation. Today we have people like John in the church.
05.Philip.
John 6:5-7. He was tested by Jesus. John 14:8-9. He asks Jesus for something. John 12:21-22. He presented the Greeks to Jesus. Today we have people like Philip in the church.
06.Bartholomew
He appears only in the list of the twelve. ( Mat 10:3 ) Today we have people like Bartholomew in the church. 07.Matthew
Mark 2:14 & Luke 6:27. Also known by the name of Levi. He wrote the first Gospel. Today we have people like Matthew in the church. 08. Thomas
John 20:25. He wanted to see Jesus to believe. John 14:5-6. He doubted again. John 11:16. He shows boldness Today we have people like Thomas in the church. 09. James (Son of Alphaeus)
He appears only in the list of the twelve. ( Mar 3:18 ) Today we have people like James in the church. 10.Simon.
Radical, defended an armed action against foreign occupation. But did nothing when Jesus was taken. Today we have people like Simon in the church.
11. Judas (James)
John 14:22. The only time he is mentioned: when he asks Jesus a question. Today we have people like Judas in the church.
12.Judas. (Iscariot)
John 12:6. He was a thief. John 13:27. He permitted the action of Satan in his life. Luke 22:48. He was the betrayer. Matthew 27:1-10. Committed suicide. Today we have people like Judas in the church.
Conclusion.
- Jesus trusted all of these men. He prayed before choosing each one. -“That they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach”. - It is a picture of the church. Who forms the church? -Men of all kinds. - How am I? If something about me was written, what would that be?
