Text: Genesis 29:21-27
Introduction
- Let’s us understand the text. - Isaac married Rebekah and she was barren. - They prayed to God and Rebekah had twins. Jacob and Esau were born. - Isaac liked his son Esau more. - Rebekah liked her son Jacob more. - Hate entered the family and Jacob needed to run away from home. ( Genesis 29:1-20 ) - In the house of his uncle Laban, he worked for 7years to have his wife Rachel. - His uncle Laban tricked him the same way he tricked his father. - Genesis 29:23. Jacob receives Leah as his wife and not Rachel as it was agreed. - So Leah’s drama began. She now had 3 problems.
01. Leah was ugly.
- Genesis 29:16,17. She was compared to his sister Rachel. - Comparison in a tragedy in the home. - Back then, there was the “service of the body” - Illustration: “The cosmetic industry” - Who chose the way of your being? - Who chose which country I would be born in? - Who is satisfied with your body?
02. Leah didn’t have the love of her father.
- Laban was a father who only thought about money. - Illustration: “Salary was not necessary; it was only for him to have responsibilities” - Laban tricked Jacob, he sold his daughter. He had children for his own business. - He didn’t think about his daughter’s happiness. - He wanted someone to work in his farm for free for 14 years.
03. Leah married a man who didn’t love her.
- The three basic need of children” - Be noticed (it is important) - be loved (by words and attitudes) - Be known (praised for his character) - It is in the marriage, the second opportunity to reach that. - Illustration: “You are everything to me” - Leah didn’t have these needs reached in her home or marriage. - In her “hunger for love” she began to have children. - Genesis 29:31: Rejected= hated - Reuben. “the Lord has seen my misery” v. 32 - Simeon. “I was heard” v 33 - Levi. “united” v.34 -Judah “I will praise the Lord” v.35 - Issachar “God has rewarded me” Genesis 30:18 - Zebulin. “Honor” Now my husband will be with me. Genesis 30:19,20 -Even though she gave herself, fought for love, and begged for love, her dream of being loved by her husband was never fulfilled. Conclusion -Leah was ugly, didn’t have the love of her father nor she had the love of her husband. - Genesis 29:18. Jacob knew that he loved Rachel. - The birth of the 5 children had bitterness sign. - Rejection is the worse of all feelings. - We need to be loved. We throw ourselves in the arms of everyone, we beg for attention. - We want to be noticed, loved and known. - So we are ignored and treated with rejection. - That’s why forgiveness is so important (Forgive others) - Forgiveness: An anti-natural act in us. We can only do that through Christ. - Genesis 29:35: Judah: This time I will praise the Lord” “Leah decided to praise in the midst of disgrace” - So, Jesus was born from the tribe of Judah - Many times in our lives God doesn’t change the situation, but he walks with us. - He can make a “Judah” to be born, some blessing, from my story. - From Leah’s drama, Judah was born - What is your “Judah”?
