Who follows Jesus? - (07/09/06)

Text: John 6

Introduction

- In the text, Jesus performs the first multiplication of the bread.
- Verse 14 says that the crowd wants to make him king.
- Verse 24 shows the crowd looking for Jesus all over the place.
- Verse 26 Jesus directs a severe word to the crowd.
- Research shows the 4 priorities of the Brazilian immigrant in the USA.

01. A group of curious people follows Jesus. ( Verse 2 )

- A great crowd continued to follow him because they saw the miraculous signs.

- Curiosity can be a peril or a blessing.

02. A group of admirers follows Jesus. ( Verse 14 )

- The famous "friends of the gospel"
- Illustration: Cornelius in Acts 10
- A group who is difficult to be convinced that needs conversion.

03. A group of greedy people follow Jesus. ( Verse 26 )

- The Bible tells us to help believers in their needs.
- But many people are in the church with the following thought:
- What am I going to gain? What can I obtain?
- A marriage? A job? A bag of food?

04. A group of incredulous people follows Jesus. (Verse 36)

- In verse 30, people are looking for signs to believe.
- They want to see and then believe. Jesus' commandment is to believe first.
- Illustration: John 20:27. Thomas' incredulity.

05. A group of mockers follows Jesus (Verse 52)

- If you are not suffering persecution because of the name of Jesus,
something is wrong.
- Mockery comes when we decide to witness Jesus.

06. A group of people who went out of the way follows Jesus. (Verse 66)

- Do you know anyone who used to follow the Ways of the Lord?
- And that now is far from his Way? In the days of Jesus, this happened already.

07. A group of people who have a commitment with Him follows Jesus. (Verse 68)

- They were challenged by Lord Jesus himself. Verse 67.
- To whom are we going?
-You have the words of eternal life.
-You are the Holy God.

Conclusion

- In which group are you?
- Be honest in your answer.
