There are many unhappy people in the world. A certain man who spent all his life as an atheist said: "The promise of happiness is a monumental fraud.” A certain actor declared recently in an interview in a national magazine: “Happiness is a cruel illusion that mocks and deceives us.” It’s obvious that the actor and the atheist had not found the secret of true happiness, which may only be found in the living God and is transmitted through Him to all believers. There are many rumors about this matter. Some people think that happiness is nothing but a question of comparison. They say: I can be happy if I’m richer than others, or more popular, or stronger, or more intelligent. In other words, these people’s happiness is based on the way they compare themselves with others. Another rumor spread among people is that happiness is the result of a certain change. There are people who believe that if they change their job, or if they move to a better place, or if they find a good spouse, they will have complete satisfaction. Sometimes a change may bring a satisfaction for that moment but there should be a better and permanent solution. Psalm 146:5 says: “Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob.” The true happiness can only be found in God. A life without God cannot be fulfilled with money, a good job, a good spouse or a good house. Life away from God is empty and unhappy. What makes you happy? Your answer to this question will reveal a lot about yourself, your values, your goals and faith. Leroy Patterson | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
