| The candles on three lamps were lit and the other lamps in the room were not burning while the family was singing “Silent Night”. At the end of the song, the faces were shining by the light of the candles when suddenly electrical energy ends in the city. The streets and houses were in complete darkness. Belinha , a 6 year old girl exclaimed: “Outside is all dark, Inside, it’s Christmas! In her infant simplicity, Belinha just discovered something important. Outside, in the world, there is darkness, but inside the homes where Jesus dwells, everything is illuminated. “The people walking in the darkness have seen a great light; ...for unto us a child is born.” (Isaiah 9: 2-6) Outside there is darkness, inside the boy from Bethlehem shines in each heart. Outside, there is the blindness of people without God, the emptiness of the lives full of sin, the darkness of an eternity without any hope of peace. Inside are the minds illuminated by the grace revealed, the knowledge of truth that frees the clarity of eternal living. The world is made of conflicts, anguish and fears. Here, because Jesus is present, peace, joy and love. How wise are the parents that instruct their children with the examples and instructions of the Word of God, teaching them to trust Jesus. As they walk through the valley of the shadow of death, they will fear no evil, because Christ will illuminate each step. Even though the valley of earth may be in complete darkness, inside their hearts, there will be a light that illuminates the life and eliminates fear - the light of the eternal love of Jesus. What a great joy it is to be a little candle illuminating everything around it. Be that light! Merry Christmas. Pr. João Falcão Sobrinho | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
