There are accusations that churches only ask for money. But, in general, it comes from avaricious people. I remember preaching for the first time about the practice of tithing after 3 years as a pastor. And a member of the church, after the service had finished, was irritated asking; why do you only preach about money? No doubt he was a miser, an example of the kind of people who want to take advantage of what the church offers, but they don’t contribute. It would be interesting however, to see how many of these people spend on secular things. If they are members of a club, for example, they contribute faithfully, even because the clubs have no patience and they exclude the ones that don’t pay. The fact of giving tithes and special offering is a privilege for the members of the church. This way, they are being God’s co-workers. God doesn’t’ need our cooperation, but gives us the honor that unfortunately, many Christian are losing for being passionless to the efforts of others who want to build a church, buy furniture, musical instruments, pay employees, support the pastor, keep up with taxes and duties but they do nothing; it means, don’t contribute one cent towards the expense of maintaining a church, to which everyone is being benefited. And those are the ones that say that the church only asks for money. This accusation has no basis. Pr. Jose dos Reis Pereira. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
